Luc Sauer (DailyRender) Interview - FIFA 17 Ultimate Team™ Kit Designer

Posted October 27th at 3:00pm.

Who are you? Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Luc Sauer, a 27 year old living in the Netherlands. I work as a graphic designer, where people on the internet, most notably on Twitter, know me as DailyRender. 3 years ago, I used my Twitter to share my (daily) football designs and player renders with the world. Soon after, I started creating FIFA Ultimate TeamTM designs and custom items that a lot of YouTubers and other people liked. From that, I started to grow on Twitter and got to work with more YouTubers from the FIFA community. In addition to the Youtube work, I also love to work on other designs like branding and concept designs. I was truly honoured with this opportunity to create these kits for FIFA 17!

How long have you been playing FIFA?

I’ve been playing FIFA for a long time. My first FIFA I played was I think FIFA 96, played many years on PC and made a switch to console with FIFA 2004.

What is your fondest EASPORTS FIFA memory?

I think my fondest memory is FIFA 06 Road to World Cup. Switching that time from current-gen to next-gen Xbox 360 was impressive. I instantly bought a Xbox 360 with FIFA. Of course not to forget with Ultimate Team been added to the game, I’ve spent many hours on my console playing the beautiful game.

What is your favourite club and/or player?

My favourite club is Ajax. Favourite player is Iniesta. I love technical and attacking play of football. A lot of times I enjoy a magical assist or pass more than the goal itself.

What is the inspiration behind your FIFA 17 Ultimate Team kit design(s)?

The EA SPORTS FIFA team gave me some requirements that I needed to add on the kits, such as a theme and colours. With that I did some research on the themes and made some sketches. On the FUT Champions kits I wanted to have a classic look with a vertical stripe. For another kit I wanted something retro/eighties look, with the bright colours it had to be something wild with some crazy shapes on it.

What is your favourite aspect/element of your kit design(s)?

I love details and the little things that complete a design or a design that is different to others. So, for example, I really like the little crowns I added on the FUT Champions kit. I also love the retro design with some of the other kits, as well as the colours and shapes I used for them.

Where can people see more of your work?

I’m still busy working on my own website but I have an online portfolio on Bechance (behance.net/dailyrender) where I regularly post my work. Of course I also post my work on my Twitter (@DailyRender).
