Funtime Friday - Playoff GIFs

Graphics have become hugely popular recently, especially sports related ones. We love them too and wanted to share some of our favorites from the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Hockey + Soccer = Brilliant

The Ottawa Senators took care of the Montreal Canadiens in five games. While some say that Game 2, which will be remembered for the amount of penalties, was the turning point of the series, others may disagree. 

The image above combines a key moment in Game 4 when Mika Zibanejad scored the Sens' first goal to cut into Montreal's already 2 goal lead. They would score one more to force overtime and then win it in the extra frame. At the time, a few people felt that Zibanejad purposely kicked the puck into the net, while video replays showed no such infraction. Still, it didn't stop someone from adding some soccer flair to the situation. And for good measure, super-imposed Ottawa coach Paul MacLean's head onto Real Madrid manager José Mourinho.

Re-insert Controller

If you're a Washington Capital fan, this moment from Game 4 of their series against the New York Rangers will probably anger you.

Not really sure what happened there with Alexander Ovechkin but he seemed completely out if as Derek Stepan would score the game-winning goal. I guess someone was upset the Capitals couldn't get the puck out of their zone and pulled the controller from the console. 

It also doesn't help that this happened earlier in the game:

First Sweep

The San Jose Sharks earned their first playoff sweep when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night. While the Canucks have lost 10 of the last 11 playoff games, this graphic will be one that fans of the team will hope they never see again.


Barret Jackman of the St. Louis Blues would get a cross-checking penalty in the second period of Game 4 against the Lost Angeles Kings. From the look of Jackman's face, he was shocked by the call.

Now, who hasn't reacted in a similiar fashion?

It's just a game

So, everyone has already seen this infamous graphic

But let's remind ourselves why it's so awesome:

  1. Two beautiful WAGs giving each other stink eyes after Toronto gave up an overtime goal in Game 4 against the Boston Bruins
  2. The woman in the top left visbility cursing then repeatedly yelling "no, no, no" before taking a sip of beer
  3. There is a guy wearing a throwback Minnesota North Stars hat at a game involving teams called the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins

Initially it was suspected that April Reimer, wife of Leafs goalie James Reimer, and Elisha Cuthbert, girlfriend of Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf, were giving each other the stink eyes based on their significant other's performances, it was later proved otherwise.

I guess the guy with the North Stars cap realized 'Hey, I'm at a Leafs/Bruins game and I'm wearing a North Stars cap...' and the two ladies rolled their eyes at his sudden admission of ill-advised attire.

That Hair

Ok, this isn't a graphic, but just look at that hair!
