Vibe with the NBA LIVE 19 Soundtrack

Posted August 22nd at 11:00am.

One of the hallmarks of NBA LIVE is the soundtrack – each year, we introduce new artists to the world while also trying to give players the perfect soundtrack to ball out to. We look to bring in artists to the NBA LIVE family who really embody the vibe of the game. This year, you’ll be able to see heavy hitters like J. Cole, Migos, Nipsey Hussle, and Big Sean but you’ll hear up-and-comers like Thutmose, Jay Critch, and Rico Nasty, too. The soundtrack you see on opening day might come with some updates during the season, too.

NBA LIVE 19 Soundtrack Highlights

Music has pretty much always catered to different geographic regions – we’ve seen decades of hip-hop that were defined by which coast you lived on, we’ve seen keys change for instruments the further south you decide to tune your guitar in, we’ve even seen slang from specific areas make songs sound foreign to listeners in other states. What makes this soundtrack so special is that we’ve created a list that crosses boundaries and includes so many different sounds and songs, and is just as wavy as it is part of the culture.

Let’s start with J. Cole (did you know he went platinum with no features?), a superstar in the rap world. Cole has been at the top of the charts since his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story back in 2011. In 2018, he released a masterpiece of an LP titled KOD –featuring the hit song “ATM.” While you’re hooping in NBA LIVE 19, make sure to run it up against your opponents with Cole in the background – see what I did there?

Metro Boomin trusted Big Sean and Travis Scott when they blessed us with “Go Legend” and the NBA LIVE team is giving us the song to play to. Migos hopped onto the soundtrack with Post Malone with “Notice Me,” a song that was easily one of the best on Migos’ Culture II album. Plus, I’m an old school guy and Takeoff gives Jodeci a shout out, which is always a major plus. Logic’s “44 More” is definitely one of the biggest tracks on the soundtrack and one the hardest tracks you’ll find out right now.

Personally, though, my favorite track is the instant-classic by Nipsey Hussle, “Last Time That I Checc’d” featuring YG. This is an anthem – imagine playing in Compton at The Drew League in NBA LIVE 19 and hearing Nip and YG in the background. You can’t get much more authentic than that. Both of these artists are major basketball fans and are regulars at Laker games; Nipsey has even been known to ball out on the court.

Reppin’ the Underground

Like I mentioned earlier, NBA LIVE looks to really find some of the up-and-coming artists and bring them to the forefront. Jay Critch is probably first up on this list. From New York, he’s turned himself into a big name at only 21-years old. “Thousand Ways,” a song produced by Harry Fraud, has become a New York anthem. Fraud has worked with some of the best talent out there and Jay Critch, who’s yet to release his own studio album, is next.

Rico Nasty’s “Countin’ Up” really hits you in the chest with her in-your-face style – trust me, she’s ready to kill the game. One of the things we wanted to stress is that as our sport, our game, and culture is global, so is our soundtrack – this is where Shakka enters the scene. Born in London, Shakka infuses the soundtrack with an international presence, giving us his own take on neo-soul. Thutmose also provides an international flair as he was born in Nigeria but adopted his own take on Brooklyn’s style when he moved as child.

There are so many other incredible names on this soundtrack– Lil Pump, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Famous Dex, Tee Grizzley, Schoolboy Q, Thutmose, and others that make this one to remember. Be sure to check out the full soundtrack below and subscribe on Spotify:
