2017 Madden Championship: 5 Predictions

Posted April 27th at 9:31pm.

5. Skimbo Stumbles Again

It's been a successful but frustrating year for Michael “Skimbo” Skimbo. He's currently ranked 1st in the world in the 2017 Madden Championship Series rankings, but has yet to grab an elusive belt at any of the events he has qualified for. And if he ends up with a loss against Zack “Serious Moe” Lane in Day 1, that’ll be tough to overcome (check out our Day 1 Must-See Matchup breakdown from Zac “ZAN” Neal).

4. It’s Anyone’s Game

Salary Cap Ranked mode means the top 32 competitors in the world will decide their own destiny. Competitors must accommodate their own strengths and weaknesses as they build a lineup under the 1,100 cap budget and choose playbooks they want to run. No random playbooks, no random players to overcome, and no excuses. A true champion will rise from the rest – but predicting who it’ll be is impossible.

3. Dubby Disappoints

Chris “Dubby” McFarland cemented his place in the competitive Madden community with a magical run at the 2017 Madden Bowl, defeating names such as Michael “Skimbo” Skimbo and, ultimately, Eric “Problem” Wright for the championship. However, after a 0-3 performance at the 2017 Madden Challenge, he’ll need to make a winning run to prove he's here to stay, and we don’t see it happening.

2.  An Uphill Battle for Beastmode Mac

After an undefeated run through the 2017 Madden Challenge last month, some questioned whether Matt “Beastmode Mac” Clark deserved to win. He had what many considered to be the least power-packed round-robin, but dominated his way through some solid competitors on Sunday, ending with him hoisting the championship belt. This time around, Beastmode Mac has a much tougher road to the final 16. Group C has some stout competition for him, including Peter “Litezout” Calefato. Can Beastmode Mac prove he’s more than lucky? It’s going to be a battle for him.

1. $500,000 is on the Line

You did not misread that. Yes, a half-million dollars will be awarded to the final 32 competitors at this year's Madden Championship, bringing the year-long total purse to $1,000,000. The largest sum in Madden history will be awarded to these competitors over the next 3 weeks. This technically isn’t a prediction, but we predict the most exciting action yet from the top competitors with their eyes on that prize.
