BIO:

Ferry Gouw is an Art Director, Illustrator, Graphic Designer, and Video Director based in London, UK. He moved to London from Indonesia when he was 15. He studied Art & Design at Central St Martins, and did his Masters degree in filmmaking at Mike Leigh’s London Film School.

Q&A:

Who are you? Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My Name is Ferry Gouw, I am the art director/in-house artist for Major Lazer. I was born in Indonesia, but I’ve lived most of my life in London, partly because of my obsession with the English Premier League.

How long have you been playing FIFA?

I kinda remember playing FIFA on Super Nintendo, but the first one that really made an impression on me was FIFA 97, that was the first 3D football game on a home console that I’d ever played. A group of us used to go to my friend’s house after school n took turns on it, and thought it was next level magical. It felt so real.

What is your fondest EA SPORTS FIFA memory?

Probably same as above, hanging out with friends in Indonesia after school and taking turns playing FIFA 97. It was also the last year I was there before moving to London, so I had fond memories of that transition.

What is your favourite club and/or player?

Chelsea FC is my club, Didier Drogba has probably been the most influential player we’ve ever had. But growing up I idolised Eric Cantona, I still think he’s my favourite ever player.

What is the inspiration behind your FIFA 17 Ultimate Team kit design(s)?

I wanted to pay homage to 90s English Premier League kits, especially classic Umbro ones. I remember the Nottingham Forest kit one year, when they had Pierre Van Hooijdonk. It looked so good. I wanted it to look legit and classic. I also wanted to reference Arizona United, the team that Diplo and Kevin Kusatsu partly own, as well as elements from Major Lazer designs too.

What is your favourite aspect/element of your kit design(s)?

Apart from the general look of it, the specific design element I really like is the World Peace logo on the shorts. It’s a symbol that Major Lazer have been using as a mission statement and logo on all our stuff.
