Qualification for the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 GLOBAL SERIES may be a combination of online in-game play using the FUT Champions game mode (“Online Qualification”) and, possibly, Live Events.

The Live Events that make up the FGS are:

  • EA-Sanctioned qualification events that are sponsored by a third party (“Sanctioned Qualifiers”) that are approved by Sponsor at its sole discretion. Including:
    • FGS Official League Partner Licensed Qualifying Competitions
    • FIFA Online 3 or its subsequent sequels Licensed Qualifying Competition
    • FGS Licensed Qualifying Competitions
  • EA SPORTS FIFA 18 ULTIMATE TEAM CHAMPIONS CUPS (hereafter “FUT Champions Cups”)
  • FIFA18 GLOBAL SERIES PLAYOFFS (hereafter “Playoffs”)

Online Qualification through FUT Champions may place Competitors into the FUT Champions Cups. FUT Champions Cups, Last Chance Online Qualification and EA-Sanctioned Qualifiers will place players into the Playoffs.

If any third party assumes legal risk and liability for a Live Event tournament associated with this Competition, then they are considered “Sponsor” and will determine their own terms and conditions for participation.

3.1 Online Qualification

The FUT Champions portion of the qualification process takes place over two separate one-month-long periods. Online Qualification for the Competition is scheduled to begin on or about November 1, 2017 (EA reserves the right to amend this start date in its sole discretion). For the avoidance of doubt, any progress in-game in FUT Champions by Players prior to November 1, 2017 shall not contribute to the Leaderboard placement for eligibility for the FGS Online Qualification.

The exact timings and further details for the FGS and its online qualification periods will be communicated on the official FUT Champions site (www.futchampions.com).

Players may compete in Online Qualification on both platforms (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) using a single PSN account on the PlayStation 4 and a single Xbox account on the Xbox One.  The PSN account and Xbox account for the respective platform may share a single EA account.  If a Player attempts qualification on both platforms, the highest placed eligible account will dictate the platform of qualification to the FUT Champions Cups.  Using the FUT Champions mode within FIFA 18 on Supported Platforms and by completing and winning any associated Daily Knockout Tournament during the week, Participants can earn entry into each FUT Champions Weekend League competition. Participants may also earn entry into each FUT Champions Weekend League competition using the Online Seasons mode on Supported Platforms by reaching a defined Division within the mode. Sponsor reserves the right to qualify or disqualify Participants into each Weekend League via any or additional means at its sole discretion. Each Weekend League competition results in a Weekly Leaderboard which is based on the number of wins a player earns with tiebreakers determined by Skill Rating, a GLICKO 2 Rating System (“Skill Rating”). Sponsor in its sole discretion, may extend or cancel any FUT Champions Weekend League competition and Online Qualification periods. Sponsor does not guarantee that all players will be able to play in all FUT Champions Weekend League competitions for any purpose, such as online qualification into Live Events or otherwise.

The Weekly Leaderboards are aggregated into a Monthly Leaderboard with all the weekends in a given month combined. A full calendar of the Weekend Leagues and the corresponding Monthly Leaderboards is below. As in the Weekly Leaderboards, Skill Rating is used to determine tiebreakers.

Tournament Format

The FUT Cup will be run with the following tournament format:

  • Each platform will have a 64 player “Swiss Group Stage.” The top 32 players from each Swiss Group Stage will advance to the playoff bracket for their platform
  • Each platform will have a 32-player single elimination playoff bracket to determine that platforms finalist.
  • Cross platform Grand Final, played between the last remaining player of each platform bracket.

Swiss Group stage

In the Swiss Group Stage, competitors are grouped with each other based on their Win and Loss record in the Swiss Group Stage.  During each round of the Swiss Group Stage, competitors play a single match against another competitor at the same or similar record as themselves.  Once all matches in a round are played, competitors will receive a new matchup for the next round of the Swiss Group Stage.

First Round

The first round of the Swiss bracket, we will seed the matchups based on rank on the qualifying platform in FUT champions during the qualifying month.  Within each platform, the highest-ranking competitor based on the FUT Champions Leaderboards in the qualifying month will play the lowest ranked competitor.  For example, the 1st ranked competitor will play the 64th ranked competitor.

Subsequent Rounds

Matchups in subsequent rounds will be random, with duplicate matchups avoided when possible.  In the event that there is an odd number of players in a record group, competitors may have to play a competitor with a similar record rather than identical record.

The below outlines the records of players on each platform at the end of each round during the Swiss Group Stage:

Elimination

A player losing four matches during the Swiss group stage will be eliminated from the tournament and will not play further matches

Advancement

A player winning four matches during the Swiss group stage is guaranteed advancement into the Playoff bracket.  Players who win four matches will continue playing additional matches until all seven rounds are complete.

Draw Matches

In the event the match is a draw on aggregate following the conclusion of regular time in the second game, the game will continue into extra time, if it remains a draw following the two 15 minute in-game periods of extra time, the game will conclude in a penalty shoot-out.

Playoff Bracket

The Playoff bracket will take the 32 players from each platform who qualify from the Swiss Group Stage and place them into a single elimination bracket for their respective platform.

Seeding

The Single elimination bracket will be seeded based on the results of the Swiss Group Stage, with those winning more matches being seediest highest in the tournament with the following rules

  • The single competitor on each platform who reaches a 6-0 record in the Swiss Group Stage will be the #1 seed in their respective bracket
  • When records are equal, the following will be used as the tie breaker for seeding in the tournament:
    • Median-Buchholz System (The sum of your opponents wins, with the top and bottom opponent discarded)
    • Total Goals Scored (without penalties)
    • Random

Advancement and Elimination

Competitors will play a single match between themselves and their designated competitor in each round of the 32-player single elimination bracket.  The competitor winning the match will advance to the next round of the bracket.  The competitor losing the match will be eliminated from competition.

Conclusion of the Playoff Bracket

Each Playoff Bracket will continue to play matches until there is a single competitor remaining on each console.  These players will be the “Console Finalists” and will compete in the Cross Platform Grand Final

Cross Platform Grand Final

The two remaining competitors will play in a Cross Platform Grand Final match, with one leg of the match being played on PlayStation 4 and one leg of the Match being played on Xbox One.

Account Setup

Competitors will have an opportunity to setup an account and FIFA Ultimate Team Squad to play with on the opposite platform from which they qualified for the Cross Platform Grand Final.  This squad has no restrictions and does not need to replicate the squad they used on the other platform.

The EA provided accounts will have all available FUT player items from the Retail version of FIFA 18 as of 11:59 PM PST on Thursday January 18th, 2018.

EA reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to make judgement on any item not presented or included in the ruleset in order to maintain fairness of the competition.

Play order

A coin will be flipped to determine the play order for the Cross Platform Grand Final.  A “Heads” as identified by the referee will mean the PlayStation 4 player picks the play order for the Cross Platform Grand Final.  A “Tails” as identified by the referee will mean the Xbox One player picks the play order for the Cross Platform Grand Final.

Tie Breaker Rules

In the event the match is tied on aggregate at the end of the second game, the game will proceed into Extra Time and Penalty Kicks, if needed.  The Extra Time and Penalty Kicks will be played on the same platform that the second game that the match is contested on.

Squad Building Restrictions

There will be no Squad building restrictions.

Controllers

Competitor may provide their own controller so long as the controller does not provide an unfair competitive advantage to the Competitor, does not interfere with the operations of the game or tournament, does not require any special configuration, cabling or adapters to function, and is designed to work natively on the console the Competitor competes on. Sponsor may, at its sole discretion, disallow any controller and require the competitor to use an approved controller.

Admins and Referees

EA will designate Referees, including a head referee, to administer the tournament during the events.  Referees will be identified onsite through a special uniform, ID badge or other element.  This will be identified to competitors before the tournament

The Referees will instruct players on when to setup the games and when to begin games before the game and after half-time.  Additionally, referees may ask that competitors pause the game at other times throughout the tournament.   Competitors are to obey the instructions of the referees throughout the tournament.  Referees will record the score of games before Competitors are allowed to leave the game session or setup a new game.

Pre-Match Options

In the event that pre-match setup options need to be adjusted, referees will ensure the correct settings are chosen.

Dispute Process

If any Competitor has an issue before, during or after a game during the tournament, they should raise their concerns to a referee.  The referee will evaluate the validity of the issue, make a ruling and instruct Competitors on the next steps.  The referee may consult the head referee and Sponsor at their sole discretion.

The Competitor may also request the referee consult with the head referee. The referee may choose to consult with the head referee and subsequently Sponsor at their sole discretion.

Post Game Disputes

Post-game disputes will be the hardest to rule on and it is recommended that any issue be brought up during the game rather than after the game.

The decision of the referee is final and binding.
