EA SPORTS Tip of the Week
05.08.08
Hey guys, this is cdj from ncaaStrategies.com with this week’s NCAA Football gaming tip. .Whether you are a freshman or senior when it comes to playing NCAA Football, it’s always important to recognize the blitz and know how to attack it. Here’s one of my favorite drills to practice blitz recognition from the outside linebacker positions, and also help you work on delivering quick strikes.
In Practice Mode, Select ‘Offense & Defense.’ In this practice drill, you will play as the offense. For team playbook, I use ‘Nebraska’ and pick ‘Slants’ out of the I-Form: Normal formation. Just pick a play that has a tight end executing a slant over the middle from one side and a wide receiver or tight end running a slant from the other side of the formation.
When selecting the play for the defense, make sure they are using a 4-3 formation and highlight ‘OLB Fire 3.’ Before selecting that defense, blindly begin to flip the play – R2 on PS3 and RT on 360. What you are doing here is randomly selecting one of the outside linebackers to blitz, while the other will go into zone coverage. This will help you to make the read on determining which linebacker is blitzing and then attack the defense in that vulnerable area.
Pre-snap, select the WR to the far left side and bring him in motion to the right side. In this drill, the wide receiver on the left side and the tight end on the right will be the two players you will look to throw the ball to. Before passing the ball, you will need to recognize which outside linebacker is blitzing and throw the ball into that open area. As you work on this drill, you will also learn how to adjust your passes so only your player will catch them.
Working on this drill every so often will help keep you sharp in reading when your foe is blitzing his outside linebackers. The key to remember is that the best way to defeat the blitz is to throw the ball into the open area where the blitzing player(s) came from.
