Dev Blog: Simulation Difficulty
By EA SPORTS Jan 29, 2013
New to Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 is a fifth difficulty level known as Simulation. This setting was created to give the hardcore players the challenge they’ve been requesting for years. In addition, there are many new gameplay settings that let you customize gameplay across all levels of difficulty.
With settings like Advanced Shot Shaping and Analog Fade Strike Meter, Simulation will challenge anyone who plays it.
At the home state in Simulation difficulty, you can see the “Arrow Only” wind display in the top right of the screen. You can also see Advanced Shot Shaping at work in the bottom right. Keegan Bradley is a Draw golfer, so he is defaulted to a Draw in his stance.
With Zoom to Aim turned off, the camera moves to a lifted state when you try to zoom out. You cannot adjust your aim or see your aimer in this state. All aiming must be done from the home state.
With Swing Meter turned off, your guide for executing the Swing Path and Backswing Length is removed. The Analog Fade Strike Meter also comes into play here; once moved, it will disappear. It takes about 1.5 seconds for it to fade away. This may seem meaningless on the tee, but get into some tough lies and you’ll understand the level of difficulty this feature delivers!
Rethinking the shot, the hole doesn’t set up well for a draw with the wind. In altering the Stance, a straight shot wasn’t possible as it forced me to use a Fade shot once I adjusted Stance. This is Advanced Shot Shaping at work, forcing me to shape my long shots.
You can use your imagination for the result of this swing.
These few screens just scratch the surface of what it looks and feels like to play a round on Simulation difficulty. As previously stated, this mode is for hardcore fans. If this isn’t your kind of mode, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 still offers four other Difficulty Levels for you to choose from: Amateur, Pro, Tour Pro and Tournament.
Amateur Difficulty provides you with a casual experience and classic gameplay.
Pro Difficulty brings several core mechanics into play, like Normal Shot Shaping and Sticky Strike Meter.
Tour Pro Difficulty increases the challenge by removing aids like Putt Preview and Ball Spin.
Tournament Difficulty remains a challenge in its own right. And with the addition of the No Beads green grid, the approach and putting difficulty has been taken up a notch from last year.
In addition to the five preset Difficulty settings, you can create any Custom Difficulty that you want. So no matter what your level of skill is, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 has a something for your style of play.
