Vancouver offers plenty of amazing places to do so. We've taken the liberty to list five of the best. Some you've heard of, others you'll be pleasantly surprised to discover.
This famed piece of urban infrastructure follows the shoreline of downtown Vancouver from Coal Harbour, around Stanley Park and all the way to Kits Point. With water, city and mountain views along the paved, relatively flat ride (as well as bathroom and snack bar facilities peppered in for good measure) there may be no better urban bike route in the world.
Pacific Spirit Regional Park
Hidden away in western Vancouver is the magnificent Pacific Spirit Regional Park. It is 763 hectares of rainforest and foreshore greenspace, with a wonderful network of well-maintained trails designed for walking, biking and even horseback riding. Riding along its trails will take you through many different microsystems, from coastal rainforest to grassy meadows. Maps are available online, or at certain entry points into the park.
North Shore Mountains
Mountain biking enthusiasts travel from all corners of the globe to experience the North Shore's incredible, diverse network of trails. All you have to do is drive across Lions Gate Bridge. A dedicated army of volunteers builds and maintains a dizzying number of trails for all skill levels. It's not just for adrenaline junkies. City Bike Routes
Vancouver is one of the most progressive cities in North America when it comes to accommodating bicycle traffic. Certain streets are configured to form a network of designated bike routes (find a map of this system here.) These routes feature traffic calming devices, roundabouts instead of stop signs and pedestrian signals to cross busy streets. Use them to tour the city or to get from A to B quickly and responsibly.
Spanish Banks - Jericho Beach
The stretch of beach from Jericho to Spanish Banks is one of the things that makes Vancouver such an great place to live. All along the shore is a gravel trail for walking and biking. You'll get stunning water, mountain and skyline views the whole time, and there are concession stands aplenty in case you need to refuel.
