NHL 13 Fantasy Rankings - Defense

EA SPORTS is proud to present our 2013 Top Five NHL Fantasy Rankings by Position. If you’re looking to get the jump on your Fantasy Draft and manage your team all the way to the #1 spot, this guide is for you.

Here’s a look at the Top Five Defensemen:

1. Kris Letang (PIT)

It’s a tough choice between Karlsson and Letang, but Letang is more experienced with a better plus/minus. Add that to the fact that Letang plays on the PP with Crosby and Malkin and you have your decision.

2. Erik Karlsson (OTT)

A Calder Trophy performance vaulted Karlsson into defensive elite last season, as he is arguably the best attacking defenseman in the game. It’s going to be hard to repeat last year's performance, but don’t shy away from taking Karlsson early if you have the chance.

3. Zdeno Chara (BOS)

Chara is a solid assist generator and picks up goals in double digits almost every season. His plus/minus rating is always near the top of the league and that likely will not change. Big Z is a blue chip selection every year.

4.  Alex Pietrangelo (STL)

Pietrangelo has become better and better each year. As the Blues look to continue their excellent performance from last season, Pietrangelo will be there every step of the way chipping in on the PP with an excellent plus/minus. Take Alex before you miss out.

5. Drew Doughty (LA)

The Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings had a storybook season in 2011-12 and a lot of that was due to the resurgent play of Drew Doughty. His offensive prowess and physicality brought a lot to the team as the former second overall pick continued his development. Although he had a -2 rating last year, look for that number to hit the positives this season.
