Madden NFL All-25: DE Dwight Freeney
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Madden NFL, we’ve compiled the best players in Madden history with help from our EA SPORTS GameChangers.Today's reveal is fleet-footed defensive end Dwight Freeney.
Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney tormented left tackles for a decade. “Madden NFL 07 was clearly themed to highlight the run game, and Dwight was one of the best weapons against it,” said Brian Parker.
The key for Freeney was his nearly-unstoppable spin move. Even though he was slightly undersized, listed at just over six feet tall, he was able to perfect the quick spin and could deploy it against bigger OT’s who couldn’t lower their own center of gravity.
“Freeney was mind-numbingly fast off the edge, and easily one of the most disruptive defenders in Madden NFL history. With speed resembling a safety, his athleticism was almost unfair.” - Shaun Mason.
Freeney became one of the best counters to mobile QBs like Mike Vick, and he was at his best getting after the quarterback and closing up the pocket.
“Your worst nightmare! There was no stopping Dwight Freeney in Madden NFL 07. There has never been a faster player off the edge than Dwight Freeney. This was the year when all my runs went through the A-gap.” - Simfballcritic.
Having to consciously avoid running to his side impacted game plans across the board.
“Like Julius Peppers, Dwight Freeney is known as one of the very best Madden NFL defensive ends ever. Freeney had the speed and awareness of some of the game's best corners and safeties, and that speed helped him gain a real advantage against flat-footed linemen.” - Corey Andress.
