  • Use the L2 button when crossing for inch perfect ball into the box.
  • Use the L2 button when close to the halfway line for the perfect view of your attacking options.
  • Don?t hold down the right stick for too long ? hit L2, select your player, flick the stick in the desired direction and pass the ball into space
  • Modify the height of your through ball using the R2 button ? R2 will give the ball a lower trajectory.
  • Slow the game down by pressing the R2 button, giving you more time to use the L2 button and send players on runs.

    Xbox™ Tips

  • Slow down! Wait until the attacker is within range and use the B button initiate the conservative tackle.
  • Call 2nd Defender is a great aid in order to get used to the new attack AI.
  • Slide Tackles -- Go easy on the slide tackles. Timing will be crucial and keep an eye on the rebounds resulting from the tackle.
  • Crossing -- Early crosses result in bonus on the receiver side.
  • Clearances -- Use the Circle Button to clear the ball out of defence.
  • Headers - A/X/Y result in a header pass; B will be treated like a shot or a clearance.
  • To become the king of set pieces visit the set piece screen in the options menu and choose the running patterns that work best for your strike force.

    Nintendo GameCube® Tips

  • If you want to defend on a direct free kick, select one of the players in the wall and move the wall to the left or the right. You can even make your players jump (Triangle)!
  • Wanna score on Free Kicks? Practice is the place where you should go...
  • Spend some time in the Tournaments. Each country has different stadiums, different ambiances and different powerful teams you will have to defeat.
  • Slow the game down and wait for your support run to get into space before playing the ball back.
  • Be careful not to pull in a supporting defender who already has a player to mark. Sometimes it makes more sense as the free defender to commit and make the tackle yourself.

    PC-CD Tips

  • Use the Player Run (L1) to get the receiver running into space before using the through pass (Triangle).
  • Perfect crosses in the penalty area can be achieved using the Remove Receiver Control (L2) and crossing directly on the desired striker (Square).
  • Early low crosses (Square +R2) will trigger beautiful diving headers.
  • Learn in practice how to activate the Remote Receiver Control mode (L2) and move the passer (Left Stick) at the same time than the receiver (Right Stick).
  • In Career Mode, use your Prestige points cleverly. When you manage a team whose objective is to avoid relegation, spend Prestige points on improving your players ? you will be better armed for the following year. If your short term objective is ambitious (win a title), you may want to hire experienced star players.

    Game Boy® Advance Cheats

When the user connects the NGC to a GBA for the first time, it will unlock 3 cheats in the Options Menu under the option 'Cheats'. They are as follows:
  • Big Ball: The ball is really big.
  • Walls: There are invisible walls around the pitch preventing throwins and effectively making the game play like indoor soccer.
  • Flying: Any player without possession of the ball will fly rather than run or walk.
  • Which team is the most surprising this year?
