In this week?s episode of ?As the Madden Challenge Turns,? One-9 travels from the West Coast to take another crack at the trip to Hawaii and chance to play for $100,000, only to walk away from Saturday?s stop of the 2005 EA SPORTS Madden Challenge disappointed -- AGAIN. Former Challenge winner Robert ?Forty? Hart continues his quest to regain his past greatness, but leaves defeated. Old-timers such as E*, Mad Guru, Da Widowmaker and Darrell ?D-Riles? Riley all made rare appearances at the Challenge, only to meet on the sidelines with early losses to discuss the old days when they ruled the gameplay.
And even the Man of Steel himself, Dan ?Clark Kent? Grundei, couldn?t save the reps of these failing veterans, as he fell short in the championship game to our latest Washington, DC Regional Champion, Justin ?Chow? Chow.
Dan Grundei has advanced to a total of five championship games within two years (including two in 2005), and nine final four appearances overall without having earned the chance to be crowned regional winner. He is the only competitor in Madden Challenge history to hold these statistics without ever advancing to the Challenge semifinals. Maybe his new nickname should be ?Wile E. Coyote? or ?Elmer Fudd,? both who could never claim their prize after countless attempts but always came back for more.
Nevertheless, Dan Grundei remains confident that his day is coming soon and continues to have fun the in the process. Besides, he makes for the perfect spokesman for our Madden Challenge sponsor Best Buy, as he continues to rack up runner-up prizes of Best Buy gift cards.
We love ?Clark Kent,? but this weekend was all about Justin ?Chow? Chow and his Oakland Raiders. After defeating Dan?s close friend Kyle ?The Remedy? Cooper in the final four, ?Chow? shut out ?Clark Kent? and his Philadelphia Eagles in the championship game by a score of 17-0. There wasn?t much to talk about in this game, as ?Chow? stopped everything that Dan attempted and executed everything that Dan couldn?t stop.
It wasn?t a good day for the Eagles in our Rookie Challenge finals, either, as Trey Ewing and his Baltimore Ravens defeated Diamond Avery and his Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 10-3. Trey's Ravens succeeded with the same type of hard-nosed defense and strong running game scheme that got them to the Super Bowl in 2000. The two competitors shook hands after the game and both walked away with official EA SPORTS prizes.
Tip of the Day from the EA SPORTS Madden Challenge Crew: Take time out to mingle with the other competitors at the Challenge; find out where some of the other guys have traveled from and establish relationships with them. This keeps the Madden culture growing and helps your game improve through new relationships as well as online competition.
