As we approached our 10 a.m. start time for Sunday?s 2005 EA SPORTS Madden Challenge in Cleveland, 24-year-old James ?Big Game? Lowe from Baltimore, Maryland walked toward the crew and bragged that although he was a long way from home, he felt pretty good about his chance to win it all. ?Big Game? is no stranger to the Madden Community, having competed in several Challenges this year; now, he becomes the first person over the age of 21 to win a regional challenge so far.
Having a name like ?Big Game? is something you earn. They don?t call him ?Big Game? for nothing, as he continued to pull out victories over top-notch competition all day.
After winning a nail-biter over former regional champion, Robert ?Forty? Hart in the final four round, ?Big Game? and his Atlanta Falcons squared off against Ronnie ?Sirus the Virus? Casey and his Philadelphia Eagles in one of the most exciting championship games this year. The first half ended with the Falcons leading 20-13 after each player scored on almost every possession.
?Big Game? seemed to have the cure for the virus with two user picks in the second half that led to scores -- and to Ronnie's demise -- as the final was 34-13. ?Big Game? shed tears of joy after a very emotional victory, followed by cheers and congratulations from the crowd as he is crowned the Cleveland regional winner.
An addition to winning our hula-hoop contest a week ago in Baltimore, Maryland, 16-year-old multi-talented Julius Senior from Upper Marlboro, Maryland won the Rookie Challenge championship over Anthony Bohanan from Gahanna, Ohio. Anthony struggled to score in the red zone and was forced to settle for three field goals for the game, giving the win to Julius, 22-9.
