EASHL October XBOX 360 Champions - Legends Never Die

October was the first month that teams in the EA SPORTS Hockey League were able to compete for a full season and it soon became apparent that in order to compete for top spot, you better have a full squad with a few lines running.

On the PlayStation 3 side, the 7 Bridges of Konigsberg rallied to once again take the monthly Championship while on the XBOX 360, Legends Never Die took home top spot for their first Season Championship.  Later this week I will post a Q&A with the 7BK and below is the Q&A with roz0, one of the GM’s of Legends Never Die.

sk88z:  Along with yourself, who are the LND GM’s?

roz0:  The GM’s consist of Bluelinking7, PRINCE sumo, Cheez Whizzzzz, Scheckel29, and myself.

sk88z:  Who’s the standout on your team?

roz0:  Cheez Whizzzzz is definitely our primary goal scorer in big games.

sk88z:  What’s the average number of players your team plays with in league games?

roz0:  The first week of the season, we played with probably an average of 2 or 3 players in a game. After that it was pretty much strictly 6.

sk88z:  What’s your team’s best strategy for winning games?

roz0:  I will answer this question assuming the game is played how EVERY game in the “Professional League” should be played, 6v6.

While we are certainly very offensive depending on the lineup we put on the ice, the most important, and the strongest part of our game is our relentless forecheck. Our forwards are the best in the game at creating turnovers off blocked passes in the opposition’s defensive zone. We routinely cause turnovers against some of the league’s better defensemen. Needless to say, if we take the puck away deep in their end, more often than not, it will result in some easy goals.

Like the other top teams, we clog up the passing lanes in the neutral zone, and our defensemen help make it nearly impossible to gain the zone.

If we aren’t creating offense on turnovers, we are creating it using our “controversial” breakouts. When we get the puck deep in our own end, our wingers streak up the boards and our defensemen skillfully RB slap pass off the boards at a perfect angle to hit the wingers. If the opposing defenseman don’t play the angle right, or cheat even the slightest bit, we are on a 2 on 1 or breakaway every time.

sk88z:  Do you use a human goalie?

roz0:  Always.

sk88z:  What teams have been the toughest competition so far this year?

roz0:  To be brutally honest, and no offense to the rest of the league, there are only 2 other top teams that give us a competitive game every time we play, Shammers Inc and DREAM KILLERS.

sk88z:  How long have you played the EA SPORTS NHL series?

roz0:  I have played the EA Sports NHL Series since NHL Hockey, back when they didn’t even use the player’s names. I actually stumbled onto my NHL ‘95 Sega Cartridge recently while looking for something in my basement, the one with the little yellow thing on the top.

sk88z:  What’s the best thing about the EASHL?

roz0:  The best thing about the EASHL is competitive 6v6 games, there is absolutely nothing better in NHL 10 than tight games against top teams where every possession matters and one mistake will kill you.

sk88z:  What improvements would you love to see in the EASHL?

roz0:  One more major tweak to the EASHL, more specifically the “Professional League,” needs to be implemented in the future. We need requirements on the minimum number of human players, and a human goalie must be mandatory. I know the nature of hockey, but when a team of 6 thoroughly dominates a team of say, 3, to the tune of 38 shots on goal to 5, with most of those 38 being quality shots, you should never lose that game, and unfortunately, I have seen this happen multiple times already this year. The computer is the saving grace for a lot of these teams out there, and it isn’t how the EASHL should play out, not the “Professional” side at least.
